Before your write your research paper, you will make a formal proposal with an annotated bibliography. I will post the proposals so you can see what your classmates are up to.
3/7 Topic Brainstorm: I combined some of these together
-organized crime history
-family influence on criminal behavior
-how hospitals are depicted on The Wire, or what it might suggest about the medical profession
-social and domestic effects of illegal drug use
-social and economic effects of drug markets
-history of the circus (note: yes we could make this work, would just take some maneuvering)
-involvement of CIA in coups, for instance in Iran in the 1950s (we could figure something out)
-post 9/11 changes in law enforcement practices
-treatment for addicts (funding, methods)
-challenges to education in inner city (incl. reverse stigmatization of good students)
-drug legalization vs. drug prohibition
-human trafficking (e.g. sex trafficking)
-legal and ethical dimensions of wiretaps/surveillance
-relationship between political corruption and drug economy
-PTSD within inner city experience
-aviation (we'd need to find a connection somehow, not sure what)
-homosexuality within black community or inner city environments
-race and the U.S. legal system
